Where n8n fits, and where we would build on something else

Our platform comparison scores eight platforms against the same four jobs. n8n leads on one, holds its own on a second, and has stronger options for the other two.

  1. When something happens in one app, update the others

A form comes in, the CRM updates and the team gets a Slack message.

    Strong fit

Trigger-and-steps workflows are what n8n is built for, and it bills once per run however many steps the workflow takes.

  2. An agent that works through a queue of tasks

Read every inbound lead, research the company, score it and book a call.

    Good fit

The AI Agent node calls your CRM and knowledge base as tools. For a team that wants to see and edit the agent's steps itself, Sim scores higher.

  3. An assistant that answers from your own documents

Staff ask questions in Teams and get answers from your policies and SharePoint.

    Weak fit

n8n can feed documents to a model, but Microsoft Foundry sits next to the Microsoft 365 content your staff already work in.

  4. Custom agents IT and security can sign off

Agents on Azure with Entra ID, private networking and audit logs.

    Weak fit

For an Azure-only security review, Microsoft Foundry scores higher. Many teams run both: n8n moves the data and calls a Foundry agent for the reasoning step.

What our n8n automation agency builds

Your CRM, ERP and help desk each hold part of the picture, and the Zapier chains between them bill for every step. Most engagements start with one workflow and grow from there.

Agents

AI agents on your data

Agents read a ticket, email or document, look up context in your CRM or knowledge base, then act or hand off to a person. Our enterprise AI chatbot is built this way.

Integrations

CRM and ERP integrations

Records move between Salesforce, HubSpot, SAP, Odoo and your internal APIs, with retries and a log of every write. See AI invoice automation.

Migration

Migrations from Zapier and Make

We rebuild your zaps and scenarios in n8n, add error handling, and run old and new side by side until the outputs match. For a large stack, an AI Audit inventories it first.

Agencies and MSPs

n8n for your own clients

Agencies and MSPs that deliver n8n to their clients run it on Forge AI, which gives each client a dedicated n8n instance and tools database under your brand.

n8n vs Zapier and Make at production volume

Zapier bills per task and Make per operation, so every step inside a workflow is metered. n8n counts one execution per run, however many steps it has. Here is one workflow with 10 action steps, run 10,000 times a month.

Billing units as Zapier, Make and n8n define them on their own pricing pages. n8n Cloud starts at 20 EUR a month billed yearly for 2,500 executions (n8n pricing page, checked 4 October 2026). Plan prices change and vary by tier, so we price your own volume on the discovery call.

Self-hosted n8n, set up for production volume

Self-hosting keeps the n8n editor, your credentials and every execution log on infrastructure you control, and makes the configuration your responsibility. This is in place on every instance we build or take over.

How to choose an n8n agency

Five questions show whether an agency runs n8n in production. Ask them of every agency on your shortlist, us included.

  1. Is it listed by n8n? Select Partners appear in n8n's own expert directory. Ours is linked from the badge at the top of this page.
  2. Which n8n builds does it run for named clients? Ask for the numbers before and after. Ours are GoKickflip, IES Limited and Pinkcube, each with a case page.
  3. Where will your workflows run? In your cloud account under your own access controls, or on servers the agency controls.
  4. What happens when a run fails? Every production workflow should carry retries, an error workflow and an alert that reaches a person.
  5. Who runs it after launch? The engineers who built it, or a handover document and a closed contract.

n8n consultants who review, fix and harden the instance you already run

Your n8n instance started as one builder's project. Now it syncs orders, routes leads and runs an AI agent, on settings nobody has reviewed since. You see the ranked findings before we change anything.

Review

Instance and workflow review

We read every workflow, credential and setting, then rank what we find by risk and by cost. Larger programs start with an AI Audit that maps the processes around n8n as well.

Rescue

Remediation of what someone else built

Workflows a contractor left behind, agents that fail without telling anyone and model providers you need to switch. We fix each one in a test environment and run it beside the original until the outputs match.

Tune

Cost and performance tuning

We find repeated API calls, model calls on records that have not changed, and heavy workflows that belong in queue mode. Each shows up on a bill or as a slow run, and each has a fix.

n8n security: what we check on every instance

Two n8n vulnerabilities published in January 2026 show where a default setup leaves you exposed.

CVSS 8.5, high

CVE-2026-0863: Python sandbox escape in the Code node

A signed-in user with basic permissions could escape the Python sandbox and take over an instance running in Internal execution mode. In External mode, as in n8n's official Docker image, code runs in a sidecar container.

CVSS 5.3, medium

CVE-2025-68949: Webhook IP allowlist bypass

From version 1.36.0 to before 2.2.0, the Webhook node matched allowlisted IP addresses as partial strings, so a request from outside the list could pass. n8n fixed it in 2.2.0.

Sources: CISA, Vulnerability Summary for the Week of January 12, 2026 (SB26-020), and the US National Vulnerability Database entries for both CVEs.

What we check
VersionA release that carries the current security fixes
Execution modeCode nodes run in external task runners, not on the host
WebhooksHeader, basic or JWT authentication, never an IP allowlist alone
CredentialsScoped per environment, with an external secrets store on Enterprise
AccessSSO and role-based access, with no shared owner login
Execution dataPruned on a schedule, so personal data does not pile up in logs
FailuresAn error workflow and an alert on every production workflow
ChangesSeparate test and production, with workflows in Git

If you handle patient or financial data, enterprise AI governance covers the controls around the instance.

n8n Enterprise vs Business vs Community

Before n8n touches production data, your security team wants single sign-on, credentials in the vault and audit events in the SIEM. All three plans self-host and run queue mode. They differ in sign-in, change control, security tooling and how much volume one instance carries.

Which n8n plan fits your team

Most teams do not need Enterprise on day one. We count your expected executions and map your security requirements first, so you buy Business or Enterprise because you need it.

Community

One team, internal workflows

Sign-in stays inside n8n, a handful of people build, and nobody needs an audit trail yet. Community is the right place to prove the first workflow.

Business

Several teams on one instance

Sign-in has to go through your identity provider, and changes have to move from staging to production through Git before they go live.

Enterprise

Security owns the sign-off

Audit events must reach the SIEM, credentials must stay in the vault, the editor cannot go down with one main process, or volume runs past 2 million executions a month.

Configured on day one

n8n Enterprise architecture: SSO, vault, queue mode and SIEM

Everything n8n stores, from workflows and credentials to execution history, stays in your cloud account. Sign-in, secrets and audit events run through the systems your security team already operates.

  • SAML or LDAP against Okta, Entra ID or your own directory
  • One project per team, with scoped API keys
  • Development to production through Git
  • Two or more mains behind a load balancer

Your vault

Credentials are read at run time from HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, Azure Key Vault or Google Cloud Secret Manager.

Your SIEM

Sign-ins, workflow changes and runs arrive as they happen, so security sees who changed or ran a workflow.

Model providers you approve

Model calls go to Claude, OpenAI or a model you host. See the enterprise context layer

n8n training for teams, built on your own workflows

Your team drives the editor on a staging copy of your own stack, and an engineer reviews each node before it touches live data. Each program is scoped on the first call, and we can help your team get certified by n8n.

Agents

AI agents in n8n

Agent nodes that call Claude or OpenAI, use your CRM and knowledge base as tools, and hand off to a person when the answer is uncertain.

Integrations

Integrations with your systems

The HTTP Request node, credentials and custom nodes, to reach internal APIs that have no built-in node.

Hosting

Self-hosting and queue mode

n8n in Docker on your own cloud, with Postgres and Redis workers, so executions and credentials stay with you.

Reliability

Error handling and monitoring

Error workflows, retries, alerts and execution pruning, so a failed run alerts a person. For training beyond n8n, see corporate AI training.

Questions about n8n automation services

Ask us something else

What is the difference between an n8n agency, consultant and expert?

An n8n agency mostly builds new workflows, an n8n consultant reviews, fixes and hardens an instance you already run, and an n8n expert takes one scoped job. We do all three with the same team, and each has its own section on this page.

Are you an official n8n partner?

Yes. Ovidius AI is a Select Partner in n8n's Expert Partner program and is listed in n8n's own partner directory, linked from the badge at the top of this page.

How is an n8n engagement priced?

Each build starts with a written scope: the workflows, the systems they touch and what it will take, so you see the cost before you sign. Ongoing help is a retainer billed by the hour up to an agreed cap, and if you start with the AI Audit, its fee is credited toward your first build.

Should we hire an n8n freelancer or an expert team?

If you need one well-defined workflow that your team will own afterwards, a single developer can be enough. For workflows that run your business, a team covers when someone is out and one partner stays accountable after launch.

How long does a migration from Zapier or Make take?

We inventory your zaps or scenarios and their custom integrations before we write the proposal. A handful of workflows usually takes weeks, and dozens of interdependent flows take longer. Old and new run in parallel until the outputs match.

Can you fix workflows someone else built?

Yes. We read the workflows as they are, fix them in a test environment and run the fixed version beside the original until the outputs match, so nothing changes for your team until the fix is proven.

Do you offer ongoing n8n support?

Yes, through AI managed services: alerts on failed executions, n8n upgrades, fixes when an upstream API changes and new workflows as you need them. Your team keeps admin access and documentation for every workflow.

Do you build n8n for agencies and MSPs?

Yes. Agencies and MSPs that deliver n8n to their own clients run it on Forge AI, which gives each client a dedicated n8n instance and tools database under your brand. GoKickflip's pipeline runs on the same infrastructure. See Forge for agencies and Forge for MSPs.

Questions about n8n plans, security and training

Should we use n8n Cloud or self-hosted n8n?

n8n Cloud is the quickest start, because n8n runs the infrastructure and bills per execution. Self-hosting suits teams whose data must stay in their own cloud or who run high volumes. Workflows export as JSON, so you can start on Cloud and move later.

How much does n8n Enterprise cost?

n8n prices Business and Enterprise as an annual fee that includes a block of executions, with more volume bought in packages. An execution is one production run of a top-level workflow, so sub-workflows and test runs do not count. We estimate your execution count during scoping, and your cloud provider bills the infrastructure separately.

Can we use n8n for commercial purposes?

Yes. The Community edition is released under n8n's Sustainable Use License, which lets you self-host it for your own business processes with no license fee. The license restricts reselling n8n itself, for example hosting it as a paid service for other companies, which needs a separate agreement with n8n.

Can we upgrade our existing n8n instance to Enterprise?

Yes. Enterprise features switch on with a license key on a self-hosted instance, so your workflows and credentials stay where they are. If the instance runs on SQLite or in a single process, we move it to Postgres and queue mode first, then connect SSO and set up environments.

Is n8n HIPAA compliant?

That depends on how n8n is deployed. Self-hosted in your own AWS or Google Cloud account, it runs under the business associate agreement you hold with that provider, and execution data can be pruned or left unsaved. Model calls go only to approved providers or a model you host. n8n says it aligns its own security program to SOC 2, with annual independent audits.

Does n8n training come with a certification?

Yes, we can help your team get certified. The certification is issued by n8n, through our partner network with them. Alongside it, your team leaves with documented workflows running on your own systems, each with an error workflow.

Does my team need to know how to code?

No. Most n8n workflows are built visually, and the Code node accepts JavaScript or Python for the steps that need it. In sessions, an Ovidius engineer writes any code a workflow needs and walks the team through it.

What does n8n stand for?

n8n is short for nodemation: the first and last letter n, with eight letters between them. It is pronounced n-eight-n, and the name describes how it works, with each step of a workflow as a node.
